fluFactor has launched a blog to track the cross-species progression of the Avian, or bird flu as it is commonly known. The blog (http://fluFactor.blogspot.com) is setup to provide commentary and links to resources as the disease moves into the human population.

“The fluFactor blog is specifically setup to provide information and links for general use,” said fluFactor’s founder, Jim Malmberg. “There is a lot of information available on the Avian flu, but I have found very few good sources of information that are consumer friendly. The fluFactor blog is designed specifically to remedy this situation.”

While there are several different strains of the Avian flu, fluFactor is focused predominantly on the H5N1 strain. This particular strain started in the Far East, and has been responsible for a number of outbreaks in the bird populations of China, Tailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. More recently, there have also been fatalities in Turkey and Iraq. The virus has already demonstrated that it has the ability to infect humans; infecting more than 160 people and killing more than half of them. So far, all human infections have resulted from bird to human contact. Scientists believe that H5N1 will eventually mutate so that human to human infection is possible; causing a worldwide pandemic.

Professional Therapy Associates will host two free arthritis seminars at its Flathead Valley clinics. Licensed Montana physical therapists Trevor Eccles and Joel Shehan of Professional Therapy Associates and Dr. Erik Schroeder of Flathead Valley Orthopedics will lead the presentations, which will provide information on osteoarthritis and available treatments. They will also share tips and exercises for alleviating arthritis pain and stiffness, and answer questions from the audience. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. It is estimated to affect nearly 27 million adults in the U.S., including 13.9% of adults aged 25 and older, and 33.6% of individuals aged 65 and older. While osteoarthritis can affect any joint in the body, it is most common in the hands, knees, hips and spine – and often has debilitating results. In fact, the CDC reports that 80% of patients with osteoarthritis have some degree of limited movement, and 25% cannot perform key activities for daily living.*

The newly released AMIs combine BitNami’s expertise in packaging and configuring web applications with Red Hat’s enterprise-class Linux operating system, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, making the AMIs appealing for use in both development and production environments. Using the BitNami-Red Hat Enterprise Linux AMIs, developers and systems administrators can deploy applications such as WordPress, MediaWiki, Drupal, SugarCRM, and Moodle to the Amazon Cloud in one click. The first batch of applications focuses on PHP applications running on the native Red Hat Enterprise Linux stack, and JBoss-powered applications will follow.
